Chief Quotes

From Chief Aweng Deng Chol,

I am overwhelmed and even unable to express my joy, that this is history in the making that since the creation of this community by God, there has never been any structure like this before. I want to thank the people of America for the support they gave us during our long struggle and also pushed for peace to become a reality today. My special thanks goes to our young boys Bol and Jok and their father Steve Walker and his family who quickly responded by helping this vulnerable people who are dying of treatable and preventable diseases everyday. I also want to thank those who supported this program which has already shown some positive changes in our everyday lives.

From Chief Thon Deng Kur,

This is the first village in Twic East County that has received such a nice gift and  a wonderful thing to have a light shining in the middle of a native village like this.

He concluded by quoting the late leader Dr. John Garang D’Mabior,

“We take town to people not people to town” and here we are.

Chief Lueth Kuol

Having a health clinic, clean water and a better school for our community, nobody will ever leave this area again. The remaining two issues are the ones of the dike and the security in the area, but the government is promising to provide them what they call a community police.

Chief Atem Ayii Maguong cautioned the community to accept ownership of this structure and protect it from anything that can interfere with its function. He urged the health committee to a full management of the center and its affairs.

Awan Kuereng D’Aweng, mother to Bol

We are the most vulnerable together with our children in terms of illnesses and childbirth. We will take the lead in fencing the center such that animals and kids do not gain access to the facility.
