In March 2011, the Sudan Health Clinic was approved as an Advance Special (Advance # 3021282) by the General Board of Global Missions of the United Methodist Church. This network of approved projects has given the clinic national exposure and creates the opportunity for United Methodist Churches and members to contribute. Donations have been received from the District of Columbus and cities in seven states, including: Dayton, and Newark OH, Tulsa, OK, Chicago, IL, Tacoma, WA, Nederland, TX, Nellysford, VA, Olympia, WA, and Las Vegas NM.

Piol Health Clinic - Steering Committee

Jok Dau: Lost Boy of Sudan. Graduated December 2009 from The Ohio State University, Major- International Studies, with a focus on International Relationship and Diplomacy, Minor- International Economics and Social Development.

Bol Aweng: Lost Boy of Sudan. Graduated December 2009 from The Ohio State University, Major- Fine Arts, with a focus on Art and Technology. Has painted pictures of his and Jok’s “Journey of Hope” and illustrated a children’s book, Maluak’s Cows, the story of the Lost Boys of Sudan.

Kelly Cantwell:Real Estate Agent, Real Living HER; President, Northwest Area Realty Association; mentor for youth program at New Life United Methodist Church; member of Trinity United Methodist Church; met Jok & Bol through daughter's global history project at Upper Arlington High School in 2010.

Malcolm Cochran: Professor, Department of Art, The Ohio State University. Cochran met Bol Aweng as a student and has kept up with him. His daughter was a Peace Corps volunteer in Guinea, West Africa, and he toured the country with her for 11 days in 2005.

Cynthia Decker:  OSU 1973 graduate in Family and Consumer Science, Retired secondary school teacher in 2010 after 35 years. Co-ordinator of Scioto Ridge U M church homeless meal outreach for 14 years. Volunteer for CAPA. Member of Scioto Ridge United Methodist Church.

Eszter Gozon:Quality Engineer at Honeywell Test & Measurement. Welding Engineering graduate from The Ohio State University. Worked in manufacturing, quality management systems, and workmanship training disciplines. Met Jok & Bol through Scioto Ridge United Methodist Church.

David R. Heigle:Retired teacher, principal, technology director Upper Arlington City Schools, member First Community Church, American Red Cross volunteer, Graduate adjunct faculty Otterbein University.

Loretta Evans Heigle : First Community Church member, Otterbein College Adjunct, retired from Upper Arlington Schools.

Dr. Walter Hull:Assistant Professor, Dept. of OB/GYN, The Ohio State University. Former medical missionary in Congo, Africa (Presbyterian Church USA- 25 years).

John Lytle:Former Peace Corps Volunteer (1974-75) and currently part-owner of Stone Environmental Engineering & Science, Inc.  Chemical engineering graduate of The Ohio State University with 35 years of experience in consulting engineering and environmental work.

Hank McCormick: District Manager, Cameron International (manufacture of pressure control equipment for the oil and gas industry). Member, Scioto Ridge United Methodist Church.

Janice McCormick: Long time supporter of domestic and international missions.  Has worked in financial services industry for 15 years.  Member, Scioto Ridge United Methodist Church.

Linda Miller:Retired seventh grade Language Arts teacher in the Hilliard City Schools. Been member of Medical Mission team for five years to Nuevo Progresso Mexico with West Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church.  Also led five mission teams to Henderson Settlement in Frakes, Kentucky to repair homes and assist at the settlement.  Assisted husband as he lead OSU students to study abroad in Dominican Republic and Brazil.  President of United Methodist Women at Scioto Ridge United Methodist Church where she is a member. 

Angie Plummer:Executive Director, Columbus Refugee and Immigration Services (Church World Service refugee resettlement agency)

Troy Pyles:Manufacturing Engineer at Honeywell Test & Measurement. Ceramic Engineering graduate from The Ohio State University. Worked in fiber optic, nano-material, and sensor industries. Met Jok & Bol through Scioto Ridge United Methodist Church.

Bill Ryan:Retired in 2008, 35 years in the architectural and construction industry. Currently project manager of construction of a $750,000 church renovation project. Has experience in architecture and construction including medical facilities. Has participated in twelve church mission trips to Mexico and one to Guatemala.

Dr. Dale Svendesen:Assistant Professor of Family Psychiatry, The Ohio State University. Former Medical Director, State of Ohio dept. of Mental Health.

Jenny Walker:  Retired elementary teacher and school librarian. Sponsored Bol’s sister in school in Kenya from 2008 to present. Member, Scioto Ridge United Methodist Church.

Steve Walker: Consultant for SRA Corp. with their client, U.S. Dept. of State Bureau of Population, Refugees and Immigration. Former State Coordinator of Refugee Services in Ohio. Former CEO of a family trucking business. Former YMCA World Service Worker in Uruguay. Member, Scioto Ridge United Methodist Church.

Natalie Mroz: Seventh grade social studies teacher at Bexley Middle School. Co-coordinator of Bexley Rain Forest Ed-Venture, educational workshops in Central and South America. International Educator of the Year 2007, Columbus Council on World Affairs. Chair, International and Multicultural Education Committee, Bexley City Schools. Executive Steering Committee member, Ohio Geographic Alliance. Steering Committee member, Ohio Council for Social Studies.
